These programmes are specially created for our young audiences to learn about Singapore’s past and understand the different cultures in Singapore. A) Early Learning Resources (NEW)

Early Learning Resources for Pre-school Educators 

 

Visit the National Museum’s permanent galleries and play spot-the-artefact! In these three booklets, pre-schoolers will be introduced to our artefacts and learn to appreciate the different objects in Singapore history and culture through the themes of Alphabets, Colours and Numbers. Teachers may use these booklets to plan for a self-guided visit to the museum. Each resource pack contains three booklets (Alphabets, Colours and Numbers) and retails at a special price of S$5 per set with a minimum purchase of 10 sets. For purchases of less than 10 sets, the cost is S$8 per set.

Pre-schools may wish to download the order form here and email nhb_nm_schools@nhb.gov.sg for bulk purchases of the Early Learning Resources prior to visiting the museum (min. 10 sets for special price of $5 each). Purchases of less than 10 sets can be done at the NMS Museum Label Shop at S$8 per set.

 B) Be A Young Workshop Series (REFRESHED)

Students will embark on an immersive tour of one of our galleries and take part in fun activities that allow them to learn more about Singapore’s history and culture. Choose from three themes – Be a Young Explorer to learn about Singapore’s flora and fauna at the Goh Seng Choo gallery, Be a Young Toymaker to discover traditional toys and games in the Growing Up gallery, or Be a Young Tourist to find out more about entertainment and leisure in the 1970s and 1980s in the Voices of Singapore gallery.

i) Be a Young Tourist

Take a trip around sunny Singapore in the 1970s to learn more about cultural spaces and popular hangouts of the past! Find out what iconic spaces such as the Jurong Bird Park and National Theatre meant to Singaporeans, and how we expressed ourselves through the performing arts. Through an interactive tour, storytelling and fun hands-on activities, students will take on the role of young tourists, journeying through time to iconic destinations in 1970s Singapore and experiencing the memories that Singaporeans created with their friends and families.

ii) Be a Young Explorer

Travel back in time to the 19th century and join our expedition to explore the flora and fauna of Singapore! Students will role-play as explorers, collecting specimens and recording their findings as they discover more about the magical and menacing aspects of nature. Through an immersive gallery experience and interactive activities, students will learn more about local plants and animals and get a glimpse into the lives of 19th-century explorers.

iii) Be a Young Toymaker

Step back into Singapore’s kampong days and experience the gotong royong spirit of the 1960s! Learn about the popular toys and games of the past and their place in the childhoods of those growing up during this era. This programme will bring students on an interactive tour around the Growing Up gallery, with opportunities to learn through role-play and hands-on group activities. Students will also get the chance to play with toys and games from the past.
