This April to September, explore the complex history of food packaging in Singapore at the National Museum of Singapore’s new exhibition, Packaging Matters: Singapore’s Food Packaging Story from the Early 20th Century. Discover compelling stories of the pioneers and players that have shaped this history, and learn about the future of packaging and eco-friendly practices towards reducing our environmental footprint. Listen to stories from Timmy & Tammy Discover: Singapore Hawker Food by local author Lianne Ong and discover various ways of packaging hawker food, explore real samples of herbs and spices, and have fun with rhyming songs!

As part of Hari Raya celebrations, children attending the 5 June session will get to create and bring home a simple ketupat-inspired woven “mat”!

Each session is limited to 20 children on a first come, first served basis.
On-site registration starts 30 mins prior to the programme outside Stamford Gallery.


About the Storyteller
Lianne Ong is a children’s author from Singapore. She is best known for her Stacey & the Museums series about museums in Singapore. Stacey Goes to the National Museum and Stacey Goes to the Peranakan Museum received the Second Prize award at the Samsung KidsTime Authors’ Awards 2015. Her new series, A Place for Us, is a six-title picture book series about special needs and will be released in 2019. For more information, visit www.lianneong.sg.

A Lighter Side of History: Traditional Teochew Kueh-Making Workshop with Yoon's Traditional Teochew Kueh and Christopher Tan 

In this Mother's Day special, learn about Teochew kueh heritage and how to make traditional Teochew png kueh at this demonstration and hands-on practical session led by Chef Müm Yoon, the Executive Chef of Yoon's Traditional Teochew Kueh and her daughter Qara Yoon.

This exhibition explores the world of food packaging in Singapore, from the early bottling and canning factories in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, to the light industries of the 1960s - 1970s when food was manufactured in factories.
