A Taste of a Very Eurasian Christmas
Sat, 1 Dec | 2pm – 3pm | The Salon, Level 1

Join us for our Christmas special of A Lighter Side of History with café owner and cook Mary Gomes, who will present four dishes that are usually served in Eurasian households during this festive period. Hear from Mary about the richness of the Eurasian cuisine, and how it reflects the influence of various cultures that include the Portuguese, Dutch, British, Chinese, Malay, Indian and even the Peranakans.

$15 per pax. Limited spaces. The session includes a presentation by Mary Gomes, a sampling of four signature Eurasian dishes (Curry Debal, Feng, Eurasian Pie and Sugee Cake) and light refreshments.

Speaker’s biography:

Mary Gomes is a passionate Eurasian cook who learnt her culinary skills from her mother at the tender age of six. Her forte is Eurasian cuisine, with some adaptation of Malay and Vietnamese dishes. Mary’s love for Eurasian cuisine is evident in the dishes she prepares, and she is also an accomplished baker – her sugee cake is her bestselling cake. Her café, Mary’s Kafe, which was originally in Bras Basah and is now in Bendemeer, has won the hearts of many diners. Mary is the author of The Eurasian Cookbook and Mary Gomes: Food for Family & Friends, which feature recipes that represent the rich heritage of Eurasian food.
