Be mesmerised by the icy waters, colourful skies, and diverse wildlife of one of the world’s most fascinating environments – the Arctic – in this stunning exhibition brought to you by the High Commission of Canada and the Embassy of Finland, in celebration of Canada’s 150th and Finland’s 100th birthdays.

The Canadian component features photos taken by youth aged 14 to 20 during an Arctic expedition with Biosphere Environmental Education, an Ottawa-based organisation whose mission is to connect people to nature. The Finland component features awe-inspiring photos of the Northern Lights taken by renowned photographer Martti Rikkonen. The Singaporean component showcases the works of award-winning photographer Michael Aw, which depict the raw beauty of the Arctic, as well as its environmental fragility.

Come and escape to the Arctic! Meet our Canadian polar bear, Nanuk, as well as Finland’s famous Moomin! Get your photo taken with these wintery visitors to Singapore in our Arctic photo booth. Don’t worry, you won’t be cold – we’ll have scarves, mittens and hats to help you bundle up and stay warm!

Meet award-winning Singaporean nature photographer Michael Aw on a guided tour of his stunning photos that are featured as part of the Ice in the Tropics exhibit. Learn how his passion for photography brought him to the world’s northernmost region to capture the plights of polar bears, walruses, puffins, seals and glaciers.

Join in an inspiring discussion with guest speaker Toh Poh Joo, a Singaporean who left his corporate and family life in tropical Singapore to battle minus-40-degree Celsius Arctic winter – not once or twice but three times – to finally complete a 566km ultra marathon race across the icy tundra for charity.

Catch an award-winning stop-motion short animation film, Poles Apart, which is produced by Singaporean Ms Ser En Low and tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a hungry polar bear, Nanuk, and an enthusiastic grizzly bear, Aklak, who are brought together by their changing habitats. The film is followed by another award-winning Canadian film directed by Kirsten Carthew, and starring Devery Jacobs and Duane Howard. Set at the Arctic Circle, The Sun at Midnight features an unexpected friendship between a hunter obsessed with finding a missing caribou herd and a teenage rebel who gets lost while on the run. Ms Ser En Low will be present for the screening.
