All Wrapped Up – Sari Sensation!

The Salon

Part of Life & Living - Food & Culture Series

The Indian Sari is a timeless garment with a history of over 5000 years. Designs, patterns and even wearing styles have evolved over the years, but nothing identifies a woman as ethnically Indian as strongly as the sari. Sari weaves and drapes vary from region to region, and range from the humble cotton weave to the elaborate, hand-embroidered silk. Enjoy a guided tour of the Fashion Gallery followed by a workshop on the origin of the sari, and learn how to wear it with style!

Homegrown fashion designer, Kavita Thulasidas, is the Managing Director of Stylemart, a renowned boutique for Indian fashion in Singapore. In 2004, Kavita launched her own fashion label Asian Woman to cater to women who like to dress in modern styles but with a traditional ethnic twist. Her fabulous collections have been featured in KL Asia Fashion Week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Show, Style Weddings Glamour Bash, and Dreams Fashion Show at the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore.

Life & Living - Food & Culture Series
Life & Living is the National Museum of Singapore's annual line-up of lifestyle programmes aimed at creating refreshing new ways of discovering and engaging different aspects of history in a relaxed and informal manner. The Food & Culture series places the appreciation of food and drink, fashion and design, in interesting cultural and historical contexts, while demonstrating how they are indelibly linked to the present.
