Curators' Tours: Why an exhibition on Singapore 1960?

Singapore in 1960 was a time of cultural awakening and fervency driven by a fast evolving socio-political climate.  It was a time when many social and cultural policies made set the foundation of how Singapore was to become, as a unique society with its own brand of socio-cultural landscape today.  Come listen to our two curators who are Singaporeans born in post-65 Singapore, as they share how they approached and dealt with issues related to the language, politics and culture of a pre-65 Singapore.

Jason Toh has been a curator at the National Museum of Singapore since 2004. He has curated Singapore themed exhibitions such as Port City (Singapore History Gallery),Photography Gallery (Singapore Living Galleries) and more recently, Weapons of Mass Desire and co-curated The Image of Our Landscape exhibitions. Jason has written articles on Singapore photography and published a book Singapore through 19th century Photographs in 2009.

Priscilla Chua was managing the National Museum of Singapore’s collections system before becoming an assistant curator in 2009. Singapore-related records that she has researched on include colonial history, the Japanese Occupation, as well as post-war, social and biographical histories. Singapore 1960 is the first exhibition that Priscilla is co-curating.
