5th CDL Singapore Young Photographer Award 2014 Exhibition

The Concourse,
Level 1, National Museum of Singapore
10am – 6pm (till 2am during Festival days)

Inaugurated in 2006, the Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA) is the first national-level photography award of its kind incepted for youths between 13 and 25 years old. The biennial competition was initiated by Mr Kwek Leng Joo, Deputy Chairman of City Developments Limited (CDL), and is an extension of the photo tribute To Singapore with Love in celebration of Singapore’s 40th birthday in 2005. SYPA has since grown to become one of the most prestigious national photo competitions organised for youths. The Award has discovered and nurtured numerous young talents over the years, and aims to continue elevating the status and standards of photographic art in Singapore. Through such arts and youth development initiatives, CDL hopes that more zealous young photography artists would be nurtured, complementing Singapore’s goal of establishing itself as a vibrant international arts hub.

This year’s winners display a unique artistic flair and a maturity that belie their age. Each of the young artists have also demonstrated their versatility and finesse across various photographic genres; cementing their status as the deserving awardees.

The exhibition also features a line-up of masterpieces by the SYPA panel of judges: Kwek Leng Joo, Chow Chee Yong, Lee Tiah Kee, John Clang, Darren Soh, Ho Hui May, Bob Lee, Sarah Choo and Robert Zhao. These esteemed photographers embarked on their photography journey at a very young age and are good role models for our young lensmen. Photography is a powerful mode of communication and offers infinite possibilities in translating imaginations into visual treats. We invite you to enter this fascinating world of photography and let your mind be inspired!
