Discover more about the ancient Egyptians' world and mindset with National Museum’s curator Hairani Hassan as she details the Egyptians’ means of equipping the dead – through mummification, provision of sustenance, magic and rituals. Unravel the procedures and preparations they took to ensure their transition from earthly existence to immortality. Explore their attitude to life and the afterlife, and understand how the main components and emphasis of their burial rites have changed through time.

Hairani Hassan graduated in Political Science and Sociology from the National University of Singapore, and is currently a curator with the National Museum of Singapore. With 8 years of curatorial experience, the exhibitions she has worked on at the National Museum of Singapore include Maria Theresia – Mother Empress of Habsburg Austria (2006) and Living Under the Crescent Moon – Domestic Cultures in the Arab World (2007). Prior to the National Museum, Hairani worked with the Asian Civilisations Museum, where she oversaw the installation of the permanent West Asia/Islamic Galleries in the Museum.
