AYNUR IN CONCERT (TURKEY)

With her US debut at the San Francisco World Music Festival in September 2006, Aynur is fast on her way to becoming the first Kurdish singing superstar. She first stunned international audiences with her impassioned performance in Fatih Akin’s filmic homage to the Istanbul music scene ‘Crossing the Bridge’. Although remaining close to Kurdish music traditions, she has refined it with a world music aesthetic, introducing new international sounds to Kurdish music. Traditional instruments merge with elements of rock and even jazz, lending a cosmopolitan feel to the songs. At the heart of her performances is her haunting piercing voice, with its crystal clear emotional currents. Aynur will perform with five musicians playing both Western and Kurdish instruments.
